Synopsis
Liborio Bonfiglio is a "cocciamatte," the madman everyone mocks, who wanders, bizarre and erratic, across the basalt slabs of a town he never names. Yet in his "untidy" voice, the twentieth century parades before our eyes with the overwhelming, festive rhythm of a procession with a marching band in tow. Because in Liborio, everything becomes story, word, somersault, and memory: school, his apprenticeship in a barbershop, brothels, the war and the Resistance, factory work, the union, the mental institution, the loneliness of old age. His memory is populated by a gallery of unforgettable characters: the maestro Romeo Cianfarra, Donn'Assunta the mistress, his youthful love Teresa Giordani, his Ducati worker friends, Doctor Alvise Mattolini, Teté and Sordicchia... From 1926, the year he was born, to 2010, the year he prepares to leave the scene, Liborio will celebrate, in a hilarious and melancholic chronicle of failures and revenge, the carnival of this century, its dark signs, but also all its madness and courage.
