Synopsis

For years, they've been telling us about a devastated and hopeless country, or a different, fake, comedic one. A naked Italy, in its wounds and desires, has remained almost invisible. Giorgio Diritti has shown it in his films, traversing the folds of history and everyday events of courage and fear, torn between our roots and the future. A journey of truth, a vital quest. Now Diritti brings the challenge to his primo romanzo, this one. It's dawn when Carlo and Alice walk through the deserted streets of L'Aquila heading to the station. They can't turn down the opportunity to move north, because years have passed since the earthquake, but in the city things remain stagnant. Two different destinations. A group of rowdy teenagers fills Alice's days in a group home in Genoa. And she, who has always felt determined, a hotbed of dreams, a force of nature, must now deal with harsh stories and her own past. The company is a new world, especially if, like Carlo, you end up surrounded by only women, designing bras in the Emilian countryside. Yet he will be surprised by himself, discovering himself as enthusiastic, ambitious, and ready to take a chance. Their old lives are distant for both of them, and even memories return in flashes: the streets where they grew up, the small gestures shared, distant families. Being a couple, thinking for two, is much more difficult now. Their love is at a crossroads, and their future still to be built.
