Synopsis

There's absolutely nothing wrong with his life: Tom is a young Italian-English man from a well-to-do family, who lives in London and travels frequently for work. An architect, he runs a successful lighting design studio, and for almost a year has been in a steady relationship with Ottie Davis, a career chef with a seven-year-old son, Martin. But Thomas only inhabits the surface of the world: reserved and somewhat unresolved, he lets life flow without much thought; his memory of a lost love, the one for Sophie Selwood, is a constant and tangible presence, illuminating the events and things around him, and telling us how love, or the memory of love, can transform into a composed and relentless obsession. A strange inheritance from an eccentric uncle forces Thomas out of his daily routine. A trip to a southern Italian island, a charming yet run-down hotel, and an unexpected weekend—in the company of locals and other foreigners who have also arrived on the island—will be the perfect opportunity to shuffle the cards, look at things from a different perspective, and finally come to terms with the past, that wise yet grotesque creature that always seems to be showing us the way.
