Synopsis

Debora Camilli is 25 years old and drives the Siena 23 taxi. She enjoys chauffeuring a diverse crowd through the chaotic, bustling streets of Rome, even though her dream was to join the police force. A dream she had to give up to support her family when her father passed away suddenly and she inherited his taxi driver's license. So now she spends her days behind the wheel, or battling with her small but constantly turbulent family: her mother, a nurse who prepares delicious dishes (a deadly threat to the austerity Debora longs to reinstate her curvy figure to) and her younger brother, a model medical student, with whom she spends her time arguing and making peace. Until one day, fate seeks her out in the guise of a beautiful woman who boards the Siena 23 taxi, forever altering the course of the driver and her passenger's lives. The woman asks Debora to wait for her under a doorway, but she never emerges from that doorway again. The detective's soul awakens in the taxi driver. To solve the case, she sneaks into an upper-middle-class environment far removed from her own, where she discovers that "high society" Rome is less respectable than it seems... At her side is Chief Inspector Edoardo Raggio, a Cilento native transplanted to Rome. He lacks the statuesque physique of American TV detectives, a lined and melancholic face, and large, pale eyes that light up with complicity and enthusiasm when he senses the right lead. Raggio and Debora form an unlikely pair of investigators, imaginatively matched to the case: he is calm and thoughtful, while she is fiery and instinctive. From the Ostia seafront caressed by the spring sun to the tourist-filled historic center, from the elegant neighborhoods of Parioli and North Rome to the working-class neighborhoods of San Lorenzo and South Rome, we get to know, through the curious gaze of the taxi driver-detective, the diverse humanity that populates this great open-air stage. Amidst twists and turns, misunderstandings, and unexpected encounters, Debora's boldness and intuition will prove crucial to solving the case. Nora Venturini brings all her talent to a lively yet bitter crime comedy, centered around Debora Camilli, an impulsive, clumsy, and feisty young woman, still unaware of her own great strength.
