Synopsis
This is a love story. It's about the oldest and strongest love, perhaps the purest in nature: the love that unites a mother and her son. She's ill, she has little time, and he, Mattia—knowing he can't save her, yet stubbornly resisting everything and everyone—launches a highly private yet universal adventure: not to waste a single moment. But in a situation like this, it's not easy to overcome the obstacles of everyday life. The small town where Mattia lives, the half-hearted job he carries out at the video store, his relationship with his girlfriend and his father: every aspect of his unexceptional life is reshaped by the frozen time of illness. Memories seem to be a safe haven: trying to rewind the memory of what has happened becomes an exercise that allows him to endure the present. But is it really possible to escape oneself? In this journey where everything is scandalously out of place, it is always the relationship with his mother that immerses Mattia in the most secret and precious dimension he feels he's ever been in. By telling the story of this 'everyman', Arco Peano restores meaning to the most unacceptable aspect of the human experience: learning to say goodbye to what we love.
