Synopsis

For Catena, the night has always been a special refuge. A refuge in her father's arms, where they could draw the constellations set in the sky together, learn the names of the most distant stars and healing herbs, and read books filled with fantastic stories. But since her father's passing, Catena has learned that the night can also be scary and hide dark shadows. The shadow of her mother's hands that force her to toil in the fields and prevent her from reading, that of her uncle's icy, restless eyes that chase her into the most remote corners of the house. Her sisters seem to no longer see her; she is now the imperfect daughter, and the memory of her father's warmth is not enough to warm the chill in her bones. Catena is only fifteen when she decides she no longer wants to be afraid. And the last night in her old house is colored red with revenge. Then, she flees into the woods, where she seeks shelter with only the company of her beloved books. It is thanks to them and her father's teachings that Catena manages to survive in the forest. But in her refuge, made of a sky of leaves and intertwined branches, the girl is not yet safe. They are looking for her, and to save herself, Catena must redesign her life, the life of a little girl who has had to grow up too quickly, but who can still love with a love that may be imperfect, but strong as the wind.
