Synopsis

In Trapani, a murdered man is found at dawn overlooking the sea, on the ancient Tramontana Walls. Against the backdrop of this story and a Sicily where "what appears is not and what is does not appear," the solitary life of Judge Antonio Voce intertwines with that of Rachele Dioguardi, a young police officer assigned to escort and protect people. The judicial investigation into the murder and Voce's private experiences intertwine in a subtle yet meticulous reflection on the subtle mechanisms that govern the existence of men confined to their isolation, their habits, and their fantasies. Guided by the presence of his old mentor Alagona and the ancient Spanish galleons that ply the waters of his imagination, Voce navigates the labyrinth of clues, stories, and suggestions that chance presents him, which will lead him to discover the truth about himself. In a Trapani populated by a myriad of characters who bring to light just as many aspects of human nature, the "little exiles" of Judge Voce, Rachele, local journalist Melo Curro, and police inspector Sinisi will be faced with the choice between life and survival, until they discover that there is no difference between a judicial investigation and a private investigation. One is necessary to the other, like in a puzzle where "all the cardboard pieces look alike. But to fill a space, there's only one piece.
