His mind is a labyrinth
Cesare Lievi
La sua mente è un labirinto
Marsilio
Synopsis
A son observes his mother's inexorable aging, the decline of her body and mind, the fading of her memory until it disappears, the loss of physical abilities such as movement and speech, culminating in aphasia and almost total immobility. The mother, in a desperate attempt to resist this process and the possibilities it brings about and allows, relentlessly brings to the surface the most secret part of herself. A strange, intense and tense conversation ensues, in which, despite misunderstandings and disconnects, a new vision of their story is formed, a completely unexpected focus on their existence. Cesare Lievi recounts with grace and admirable clarity what are probably the most intense moments of a mother-son relationship, in which love, devotion, and the realization of the beginning of the end become a poignant chronicle and intimate diary of filial sentiment.
