Synopsis

In 1985, Kurt Schaltzmann, Markus Baumgartner, and his sister Evi were killed in the Bletterbach, a gigantic gorge whose fossils reveal the terrible history of the world. Someone had literally massacred them during a storm. Their bodies were found so mutilated that it was doubtful whether a human being had committed such a massacre. Thirty years later, Jeremiah Salinger, an American documentary filmmaker who married a local woman, discovered the story and was drawn into it. Everyone in Siebenhoch, the small Dolomite town where he had moved, advised him, more or less threateningly, to give up. Even his father-in-law Werner, a former mountain rescuer, one of the men who found the bodies of the three boys; even his wife Annelise, worried about him and their young daughter Clara. It was as if that bloodbath had brought with it a curse. As if something terrifying that was thought to have disappeared had awakened in the Bletterbach, something as old as the Earth itself.
