The Wrong Sister

Camilla Filippi

La sorella sbagliata

HarperCollins

Synopsis

Luciana left Milan as soon as she could. Her mother always agreed with Giovanna, her sister. Because Giovanna was the favorite child. Because Giovanna has an impossible personality. Because Giovanna is spastic. So Luciana moved to Bologna, where she teaches in a high school and started a new life. She dyed her hair black, and now her friends call her Snow White. Until, one morning while she's at school, she receives a phone call. She has to return to Milan. It happened suddenly. Her mother is no longer there. The disorientation, the funeral, Giovanna. Giovanna yelling at her for not being there, Giovanna asking her to take a trip in honor of their mother. The destination must be Stromboli, she says. But Stromboli is too far for Luciana, so she suggests they settle for San Benedetto del Tronto. Between old resentments and new arguments, the two sisters thus begin a journey destined to change their lives forever. Amidst unexpected events and setbacks, while all of Italy tries to figure out where Aldo Moro is being held captive, Luciana and Giovanna—the latter with Briciola, her inseparable paraplegic dog—will encounter unexpected traveling companions along the way, such as Ivan, a dazed young man in love with India, a country he's never been to, and Rossano, who, despite being trapped in the body of a hulking man, is actually Rosy, a charming transvestite. All four are headed toward the inevitable showdown.
