Synopsis

It's 2007, in a psychedelic Bilbao, exhausted by the final blows of Basque terrorism. Gorane and Jokin are twenty-five, twins, and the sons of two ETA militants. Raised without rules, they take opposite yet complementary directions: completely compliant and passive, Jokin, a heroin-addicted drummer, seems to follow in his parents' footsteps, while Gorane, ambiguous and introverted, tries to distance herself from their teachings, taking refuge in an abstract world that continues within herself. What unites them, however, is a visceral, anarchic, incompressible feeling. When Jokin—no longer able to handle the pressure—runs away and her parents become involved in a tragic event, Gorane is gripped by strange hallucinations that force her to consult a psychiatrist. In Paris, Jokin meets Germana, a beautiful Italian-French girl with bizarre pyromaniac tendencies, and begins playing clubs with a drum and bass band. Yet, despite the physical distance, the twins' lives seem destined to never be separated. It will, in fact, be a novel by a French writer that will bring them together again. The Fray is a polyphonic work, a world that connects reality to our most secret dreams, a world where the only driving force seems to be the blind power of violence. Can freedom—a fragile and illusory achievement of our time—turn out to be an instrument of torture concealing cages we hadn't foreseen?
