Eve's mother
Silvia Ferreri
La madre di Eva
NEO
Synopsis
A mother speaks to her daughter within the walls of a Serbian clinic. Beyond a door, they're preparing the operating room. Eva has just turned eighteen and has been waiting for this moment since birth. She wants to change sex by undergoing the surgery that will make her what she's always felt like: a man. Her mother speaks to her with her body, because it's the body that's wrong, deceptive, treacherous, a body like hers that nature itself wants to deny. In a dialogue without answers, suspended between the imagined and the real, the mother recounts their life up to that moment, retracing its paths as if moving in a foreign land. Her voice is concrete, touching, vivid, and speaks of a struggle that has no winners or losers, in which there is no surrender, in which the purest form of love becomes two-faced and ferocious.
