Synopsis
A daughter turns to her mother, gathering her legacy of stories that belong to an Italy not so distant in time, yet already part of a mythical horizon. Her childhood among the farms of Piedmont, prayers instead of nursery rhymes, her apprenticeship to shame and hardship, her passion for work, her first car, her love for an exuberant yet fragile husband, and for her unexpected children. Proceeding through short chapters that mark milestones and encounters, "The Light That Rained" illuminates with a keen and sympathetic gaze the journey of a woman and a country undergoing transformation. An intimate book that—emphasizing the maternal "you" without ever judging it—tells in the second person singular the adventure of a normal existence.
