The Assayer

Synopsis

A silent and mysterious war unfolds in Australia at the end of World War II. A bloodbath, often confined to the fury of intent, branches out underground through the streets, in the plumbing of homes, and in the places of daily safety. In Melbourne, Felix, a Jewish watchmaker of ancient tradition, embodies the invisible link between two irreconcilable worlds: on one side, the Holocaust survivors, consumed by their own history, torn by a desire for revenge and, at the same time, a need for oblivion, who came to the continent to escape a bloody past and rebuild an identity shattered by Nazi persecution; on the other, the Nazis, who have escaped the justice of posterity in the most remote corners of the globe, living under false names, with cunningly reconstructed lineages, performing the most ordinary jobs and smiling, always. Felix tracks down the Nazis. And kills them. Between clandestine meetings inside their homes and undercover reconnaissance in Jerusalem, where he uncovers unexpected stories that involve the Templar Order in his investigations, the watchmaker and his circle of trusted companions plan bloody executions, assemble homemade bombs, amass repertoires of notes, schedules, and photographs, keeping every suspicion at bay..
