Synopsis

The great adventure as a conquest of awareness, from Vienna threatened by Nazism to post-war Italy, from Malta to the slums of Cairo, from Tamarirasset to the Adrar des Iforas of the Tuareg, from Algeria during the War of Independence to De Gaulle's Paris: these are some of the stages along which Indaco's life unfolds, accompanied and, at times, overwhelmed by the greatest river in the history of our century. From the beginning, Indaco is exposed to the uncertainties that mark an intensely lived life. As a child, by a cruel plan of his mother's companion, he is abandoned in Venice, just as the two women who represent his entire family are embarking for America. From that moment, his education is marked by adventure, which will be the dominant theme of his life as a man. In a succession of journeys and passionate love and politics, Indaco will pursue her individual destiny, intertwining it with that of the peoples who were protagonists or victims of the vast historical upheaval of the twentieth century. The passing of the years is marked by the succession of the seven colors which, according to an ancient Indian doctrine, gradually correspond to a new emotional and existential situation. But each passage also marks a different phase in Indaco's struggle against a dark enemy: black. The encounter with men and countries, the loves and wonderful and dramatic experiences, will be a stimulus to continue along a modern path of growth that can only be considered complete when Indaco has realized her ambition: to live up to the peace she sought.
