Synopsis

A town in Southern Italy hides a terrible mystery. A young man must uncover its history. Giacomo Marotta is a young railway worker. The war has recently ended, and he has just received a new assignment: he will be the stationmaster of Centunoscale Scalo, a town of about a hundred inhabitants, a place Giacomo imagines as an oasis of peace and serenity. It is the beginning of a new life and a bright future. But the welcome he receives is not what he expects: he hasn't even disembarked from the train taking him to his destination when a woman tells him, with a hostile and feral look, that he isn't welcome there, that in Centunoscale they can fend for themselves. This is only the first in a series of disturbing encounters. Encounters that bring with them a thousand questions and uncertainties, severely testing the young stationmaster's enthusiasm. Who are his real landlords? And who is the child, with hair as gray as ash, wandering the streets of Centunoscale? And why those crumbling houses, those haunting brick walls?
