Synopsis

In the Tower, there is nothing but part of the emptiness that surrounds it. This is why Vanda decides to remove her daughter Ginevra from the twenty-two-story concrete building where they live on the outskirts of Rome and enroll her in high school in a wealthy neighborhood of the city, where she can mingle with the children of the powerful. For Ginevra, Vanda is certain, there is hope of redemption: at fourteen, her body has exploded with an unexpected beauty, which sets her apart from the other inhabitants of the Tower. She seems designed to conquer whatever she desires, she speaks of a better life, perhaps even happiness. Ginevra, more aware than Vanda of her inescapable difference from her new classmates, thus finds herself catapulted into an unknown world. She befriends Camilla, a grown-up girl, overprotected by her father Claudio, to whom she is bound by a morbid love, and in a constant cold war with her mother Eleonora. While Camilla struggles with her own sense of inadequacy toward everyone—the boy she's infatuated with, her peers, but above all herself—Ginevra wants to be free, from the Tower, from a life already marked by chaos, but also from Vanda and her unrelenting love. To do so, she needs money, and the people she finds herself hanging out with have plenty of money. Ginevra, Vanda, Camilla, Claudio, Eleonora: in a desperate effort to counter the inertia that cages them, each will try to untangle the threads of their own story, finding themselves having to make complicated choices, the consequences of which they often cannot foresee.
