Synopsis

The novel unfolds from 1924 to the late 1970s. The protagonist, Lorenzo, at the age of ten, runs away from an orphanage and is adopted by a simple family with strong values ​​and ideals. He will spend much of his life in a state of "suspension," conditioned by an inner sense of inadequacy. He will face his existence by identifying and believing in a magical place, the white sea, shown to him by his adoptive father. More than a physical space, the white sea is an ideal point where he will find confrontation and comfort in the face of real events, a sort of mentor. Love—for his homeland, for the sea, and for the people—will be the driving force of his psychological and social growth.
