Synopsis

Enrico Bertelli, a corporate finance expert, a shy, retiring man submissive to his fate, struggles between an unrewarding job and the comfortable, dull routine of a small town. His hiring at Idealset, the country's leading television and advertising company, changes his fortune. Appreciated for his dedication and professional skills, he is assigned to manage the private affairs of the owner, Leo Maspero, the "Pharaoh," a wealthy, charming, and unscrupulous entrepreneur who is about to found his own political party and run for the national government to ensure the triumph of the "rich man's revolution" and the establishment of the "democracy of desire." The accountant, whose new duties include making periodic payments, hand in hand, to Maspero's young friends, will find himself entangled in the games of the small court surrounding the tycoon, as well as being severely tested by his contact with such provocative girls. The naive Bertelli will then measure, with an acute sense of impotence, the unbridgeable distance between his anxiety for security and the wild unpredictability of life.
