Synopsis
It's fear that gives him the strength to run. Little John Cameron feels neither hunger nor cold, nor does he even notice that his arms are covered in blood. John only knows he must walk through the woods, in the darkness. Only then can he call for help for his friend James Sinclair. Only then can he save what remains of his innocence... Seattle, present day. Blindfolded, hands bound, and a cross drawn in blood on his forehead: it is in this macabre pose that Detective Alice Madison finds the bodies of James Sinclair and his family, murdered in their home. From the evidence found, it seems the culprit is John Cameron, a criminal suspected of numerous other crimes. But for Madison, the numbers don't add up: why would John Cameron kill his childhood friend? Why would he hate the very person with whom he had shared a devastating experience? There's something dark behind those murders, something rooted in the darkness of that night twenty-five years earlier, when the police saved the two kids but failed to arrest their kidnappers. And to uncover the truth, Madison will have to empathize with the killer and accept that, when we gaze into an abyss of darkness, the darkness also gazes into us.
