Synopsis

Delay is negligence. Negligence is disorder. Disorder is the seed of perdition. Maite is among the most efficient workers in the factory where she works. Ultimately, she has no choice: if she were to commit an infraction, she would be punished with death. Maite secretly cultivates her passion, singing, and dreams of reaching the legendary garden at the end of the world, where rebels are said to live in complete freedom and where fireflies are said to have survived. Her country has become a cold and barren prison. After a long war, Italy has been divided into Signorie, and to prevent a return to chaos, the arts and sciences are reserved for a select caste, while the excluded are condemned to a life of obligation and deprivation. The only source of entertainment is the Ceremony, the great festival celebrated for the anniversary of the Rebirth. Maite has always wanted to perform on that stage, but the day she can finally achieve her redemption, she will discover that, in a country that has killed all hope, even dreams can be longed for..
