Synopsis

On the outer edge of Palermo, in the most difficult of today's suburbs, ten young people recount their lives, their dreams, and their meager destiny. The neighborhood is the CEP, the People's Housing Center, where promiscuity and crime reign supreme, and where the only law seems to be the possession of things and people. In these concrete esplanades, children can wander off and never return, girls become women too quickly, and boys grow up with the belief that any means are permissible to get what you want. Far away lies Palermo, with its splendid monuments and ancient churches that the CEP kids have never seen, like the sea. In a alternating of hope and resignation, each character speaks clearly, without filters. We thus discover that cruelty is not the prerogative of adults, but an original sin passed down from father to son in a constant role-playing game, alternating victims with executioners. Francesca Maccani, in her first work, composes a choral, poignant and very true novel.
