Synopsis
Aida is just six years old when, with her mother, she must flee the small town where she was born and raised. In an endless night of darkness, unknown, and terror, she reaches the Italian border, where she meets her father. Together they arrive in Milan. As the days slip by, Aida tries to take in her new world. Growing up is difficult everywhere, and she must do it suddenly, alone, because the forced move has also upended her parents' reality. Not even the arrival of her little brother Ibro can restore order: their life is still elsewhere—an elsewhere that the war has now erased. Under the weight of nostalgia, her family is consumed, some torn apart by anger, some crushed by the weight of unbearable secrets, some held hostage by an elusive evil. Aida soon understands that to survive, she must carve out a new horizon, even if it means cutting off her roots.
