Synopsis
Simple men, secluded in the recesses of history, are sometimes the most attentive seekers, assiduous observers of the laws that govern the world. To this lineage belongs the postman of Girifalco, a shy and solitary man, dedicated to recording, in the form of coincidences, the epiphanies of Chance, which denied him the joys of love, offering him in exchange the gift of imitating the handwriting of others. The postman of Girifalco cultivates a vice: he opens, reads, copies, and catalogs letters before delivering them, tracing a private geography of the village's minute events. And so one day, from the mailbag, an unusual letter emerges, without a return address, sealed with a wax seal. A love letter, one of the postman's favorites, which seems to conceal a mystery. It's 1969, the American is about to take his first step on the moon, and the postman, a modern Mercury, messenger of the gods, prepares for his mission: to uncover an ill-fated passion and save Girifalco from the shady dealings of the mayor, who plans to sell the lush Mount Covello for a landfill. Language and dialect blend in this novel like the universal and the particular, giving shape to an inspired plot and a carousel of characters.
