Synopsis

A gas station with a small café attached is Lenni and Stella's happy place. Lenni is of middle-class origins, Stella has always lived there, amidst oil spills and the exciting smell of gasoline. Then there's Lenni's mother, who comes to Rome to take her daughter back. For this, she is killed by the girls, brutally but without malice. Told by three voices, in a sort of ballet of souls, the story revolves around the two lovers' attempt to hide the body, and the mother, like a slightly clumsy angel, also ponders what is happening. Benzina tells the story of a love outside the rules, lightly using the models of the novel, road movie, and "bad girls." Lenni and Stella live their passion in a way we're not used to. It's an absolute love, without doubts, without oppression, an ancient love, in its passion and dedication, yet very new in its situations and dynamics. Light and reckless, amateur and inspired, innocent and criminal, the two girls kill to defend their perfect dream: and the novel hurtles forward, sucked into a vortex of space and time, towards an unattainable absolute, towards an ending that leaves us astonished and liberated.
