Synopsis

Mimmo Calò is 44, has few vices, and has twenty thousand euros in his bank account after twenty years of working as a television commentator for Palermo matches. He's not bald, but he's working on it. He has a girlfriend, Barbara, but he's only recently realized it. And he lives in the house his grandfather left him, surrounded by wallpaper. A fine legacy, except that these days, "Nothing reminds you more than the wallpaper in the living room that you haven't accomplished anything in your life." Calò is cynical and lazy, a boorish philosopher. He breaks the ice with political incorrectness and then seduces you with firm principles: family, friendship, loyalty. He's the modern hero who leaves others the dream of a beach bar in Costa Rica, who prefers court auctions to soccer with friends. And it's precisely from this unusual hobby, and an unexpected fatherhood, that his misadventures begin: opening a restaurant serving only sfincione—a delicious Sicilian pizza, heavily leavened, with tomato and onions. This leads to a cascade of problems: mortgages, credit lines, permits, endless bureaucracy, extortion, unfair competition, a bank robbery, a gun pointed at his head, the offer to participate in a "social kidnapping" to pay off his debts, and bad luck. So much bad luck.
