Synopsis

"Milan is not a city to be looked at at eye level," says Alessandro Robecchi. "To truly understand it, you have to look down, where the basements fill with traffic, warehouses, and workshops, (...) or you have to look up, where the early twentieth-century buildings have risen as if by levitation." Between the Milan below and the Milan above, an unstoppable story of crimes and twists of fate unfolds, featuring a diverse and bizarre group of characters who beautifully convey the state of things, that absurd and at times hilarious mix of fortune and misfortune, wealth and poverty, violence and morality. A successful television writer has abandoned the show that owes its success. It's called Crazy Love and chronicles the love lives of "the neither good nor the good people of the nation." Subterfuge, betrayal, hatred, passions, and resentments, under the motto "This too makes love." A huge success, but he can't take it anymore. While he's happy and proud of his choice, one evening a man shows up at his house and tries to kill him. Three fingers of a good 14-year-old whiskey thrown in the attacker's face saves his life. But from there on, it's a disaster. A pair of cultured and professional hitmen, two gypsies seeking revenge, a young bloodhound with a broken heart, collectors and smugglers of Nazi-Fascist souvenirs, a few too many deaths: Robecchi's is a thriller and a comedy, somewhere between Sanantonio and Scerbanenco, Zelig and the songs of Enzo Jannacci. A black comedy, full of suspense, surprises and paradoxes. Told by a caustic and mean voice, which comments and describes everything with sharp irony, but which also pauses to peer into the characters' hearts, into the darkness and light of their inky lives.
