Synopsis

1185. Enchanting Palermo, a melting pot of many cultures, resplendent with its palaces and precious mosaics, is ready to welcome its new queen. Forced to renounce her vows, Constance of Hauteville, the last heir of the Norman dynasty that rules the Kingdom of Sicily, is married to Henry of Swabia, son of Emperor Frederick. A marriage dictated by reasons of state that must be crowned by the conception of an heir to the throne. But while the long-awaited child is slow in arriving, the fragile and beautiful Constance must contend with powerful enemies, first and foremost Walter of Palearia, the emperor's minister, who fans the flames of Henry's jealousy to destroy her and maintain his enormous influence. When little Frederick is finally born, his mother must do everything to protect him from the countless dangers that threaten him. Until, as a young boy, he himself is able to get rid of his implacable enemies, revealing qualities that will make him a great emperor.
