The incredible story of Callista Wood who died eight times

Synopsis

It's winter in South Dakota, between the village of Keystone and an Indian reservation. A young Native American woman has been murdered in Lenny's bar. Her name is Callista Wood. The sheriff investigates, but no one seems to know her, yet the statements of eight residents make everything even more enigmatic: each confesses to murdering her and doing it alone. Meanwhile, one of the Jones twins has returned to town, bringing with her a secret: a hearing that allows her to hear up to a half-mile away. For many, it would be a gift; she would do without it to have her sister and her missing leg back. Who is Callista Wood? And why does she hear the villagers whispering her name? Manuela Montanaro's narrative is vivid, vibrant, and supported by an architecture that leaves no escape. In his hands, the investigation into a mysterious murder becomes the story of a harsh, wild frontier world, of a community whose strength ‒ for better or for worse ‒ comes from who we are, what we have, and the lands we live in.
