Synopsis

Sabrina Efionayi has two mothers. One is Gladys, her biological mother, who was born in Nigeria and came to Italy at nineteen to work and support her family back in Lagos; she didn't know her profession would involve selling her own body. The other is Antonietta, a Neapolitan, and she never imagined that one day Gladys would cross the street between their homes and place Sabrina in her arms, asking her to take care of her, to become her mother. She didn't imagine it, but when it happened, she accepted. From that moment on, Sabrina found herself in a special situation, because her ties with her biological mother, with her origins, remained intact, and so she grew up between Castel Volturno and Scampia, between Prato and Lagos, changing families, languages, perspectives, and cultures, constantly searching for a center of gravity. Hers is a complex identity, one that her name alone reveals: Sabrina, like the daughter of Gladys's tormentor, chosen to please her; Efionayi, like a man who is not her father, but who gave her a surname.
