Synopsis

Margherita is thirty-four years old and has a job she loves. She's beautiful, wealthy, but desperately unable to get over both the loss of her beloved father, who died suddenly eight years earlier, and the abandonment of her boyfriend, who left her without much explanation. After a serious car accident, she wakes up in the hospital. There, she meets an elderly woman who recently underwent hip surgery. Anna, now seventy-six—born in extreme poverty, "sold" as a scullery maid as a child—has spent her life with a narrow-minded husband and a mean daughter, yet she has retained an extraordinary zest for life. Thanks to the mysterious letters she has written and received every week for over half a century. The worlds of these two women are far apart: had they not been forced to share the same room, they would never have spoken to each other. After initial stormy clashes, however, outside the hospital, the short circuit sparked by their unlikely friendship will change both their lives for the better. A graceful novel that recounts, with an ironic and surprisingly light tone, the pain of loss and the struggle of rebirth. Here, she meets an elderly woman who recently underwent hip surgery.
